Central Alberta Accessibility Champions — what we are not

We are a new Alberta non-profit in Red Deer, led by people who live with disability. Before we ask for your time, here is what we will not do, so nobody has to wonder.

• We do not deliver day programmes, residential supports or employment placement, and we will not start. Those belong to the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD)-funded agencies and the government counters that already do them. We refer people to you.
• We hold no client files. The drop-in keeps a headcount and a tally of questions, never a name. The directory holds organisations, not people.
• We do not give benefits advice. Anything we publish about Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) or the Canada Disability Benefit points to Alberta Supports and the official estimator. It is information, not advice.
• We do not speak for any member organisation. The Access Table publishes its own minutes. A Table statement is only issued after the members present approve the words.
• We do not compete for the funding you rely on. Our funding stack is small, named, and published in the annual report.
• We do not rate anyone. Venue access sheets are facts checked on a visit, in words. No stars, no scores, no rankings of agencies.
• We do not invent criticism. Where a directory entry is wrong we say what we checked, when, and what we found; we do not say why.
• We are not a media company. Alberta Current, Red Deer Marquee and the Red Deer Community for Jazz Music carry our access facts on their boards. They are partners and channels, not owners; they hold no seat on our board and no vote at the Table.

What we do: keep a verified record of what exists here, publish plain access information about venues and events, and convene a quarterly table of agencies and self-advocates. Every design decision is checked with disabled Central Albertans before it is final.
